Aftercare

Laser hair removal aftercare

Most side effects settle when heat, sun, and friction are kept off treated skin for the first day or two. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, sun protection between sessions is often what separates an uneventful course from pigment problems. Aftercare is not optional on the face and exposed body areas.

SPF and gentle skincare on treated facial skin matter between sessions, especially in strong sun.
01The short answer

What aftercare involves

For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot baths, saunas, heavy exercise that heats the area, and tight clothing on treated skin. Use broad-spectrum SPF on exposed zones. Do not wax, thread, or pluck between sessions. Shaving is usually fine if the clinic allows it. Shedding in the weeks after a visit is normal. Redness and bumps around follicles usually settle within a day or two. Call the clinic if you see blistering, grey skin, spreading redness, or pigment change that does not improve.

02First 48 hours

First 48 hours

Right after a session

Cool the area if needed
Cool compresses can ease warmth. Avoid ice directly on skin unless the clinic advises it.
Skip heat and sweat
No sauna, hot yoga, steam room, or long hot showers on the treated zone for 24 to 48 hours.
Loose clothing
Tight underarms, waistbands, and bra straps cause friction on fresh treatment.
Leave the skin alone
Do not pick, scrub, or wax shedding hairs. Let them fall out naturally.
03Sun and heat

Aftercare in Islamabad sun

Strong UV is normal for much of the year. Treated skin is more sensitive to pigment change.

Broad-spectrum SPF on exposed treated areas is standard, not extra. Hats and covered sleeves help on the face and forearms. Swimming in chlorinated or open sun right after treatment is usually postponed. Peak summer does not mean laser is impossible, but it does mean stricter sun rules and more conservative settings.

  • Facial and arm courses often need the strictest SPF because those areas see daily sun.
  • Underarms and legs are easier to protect than the face, but open-leg clothing still matters.
  • Self-tanner on treated skin should wait until the clinic clears it.

Device settings and aftercare work together. Sun exposure between visits can undo conservative treatment.
04Between visits

Between visits

What you can and cannot do between sessions

The course only works if follicles stay intact for the next visit.

Usually allowed

  • Shaving if the clinic approves
  • Gentle cleanser on the area
  • Broad-spectrum SPF on exposed skin
  • Light moisturiser if the clinic clears it
  • Normal daily activity once heat rules pass

Usually avoid

  • Waxing, threading, plucking, epilator
  • Strong retinoids and acids on the zone unless cleared
  • Tanning beds and deliberate sun on the area
  • Picking at crusting or ingrown bumps
  • Other hair removal treatments on the same zone
05Shedding

What happens to hair after treatment

Shedding is not the same as instant permanent removal.

  1. 01

    First 24 to 72 hours

Redness and follicular bumps are common. The skin may feel warm. Most of this settles quickly.

  2. 02

    One to three weeks

Treated hairs often shed and push out. It can look like regrowth but is usually dead hair exiting the follicle.

  3. 03

    Before the next session

Some fine hairs may appear. That is expected. The next visit targets follicles that were resting before.

  4. 04

    Through the course

Hair returns finer and sparser between visits. Patchy areas often improve by sessions four to six.

06Act quickly

When to contact your clinic or a doctor

  • Blistering, raw skin, or a grey charred look during or after treatment
  • Spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever in the days after a session
  • Pigment clearly darker or lighter than surrounding skin and not improving after two weeks
  • A cold sore flare after facial treatment when you have a history of herpes simplex
  • Pain that feels sharper than the quick snap described at consultation and getting worse, not settling

07FAQ

Aftercare questions

Can I exercise after laser hair removal?

Light activity is often fine the next day. Heavy sweat and friction on the treated zone are usually avoided for 24 to 48 hours. Ask your clinic for body-area specifics.

When can I swim after treatment?

Many clinics suggest waiting 24 to 48 hours before pools, hot tubs, or open sun swimming. Chlorine and sun on fresh treatment irritate skin.

Why does hair seem to grow back after a session?

Shedding hairs can look like regrowth. True regrowth between visits is often finer. If coarse hair returns quickly every time, tell the clinic before the next session.

Is SPF mandatory on the underarms?

Underarms are usually covered, so SPF matters less than on the face. If the area is exposed in sleeveless sun, protect it. Facial aftercare always includes SPF.
