Laser hair removal for the face

Facial laser targets coarse or unwanted hair on the upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, or as a full-face plan. Appointments are short, but sun protection and device choice matter more here than on covered body areas.

Facial hair concerns often start with small zones such as the upper lip or chin. A consultation should confirm whether your hair colour and skin tone suit laser.
01The short answer

Can you laser hair on the face?

Yes. Laser and IPL are commonly used on the upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, and sideburns when hair is dark enough for the device to target. Facial appointments are usually five to twenty minutes depending on how many zones are included. Most clinics plan six to eight sessions at four to six week intervals. Full-face packages are sold separately from single-zone plans. Hormonal hair on the chin or jaw often needs maintenance after the main course.

02Zones

Zones

Which parts of the face are treated?

Clinics quote by zone or as a combined full-face plan. Confirm exactly what is included before booking.

Facial zones commonly treated with laser hair removal

Upper lip

Typical session time
3 to 8 minutes
Common notes
Small area, sharp sensation relative to size. Often the first facial zone people try.

Chin

Typical session time
5 to 10 minutes
Common notes
Coarse hair is common. Hormonal regrowth may need touch-ups later.

Sideburns

Typical session time
5 to 10 minutes
Common notes
Hair line shape matters. Discuss how far treatment should extend before session one.

Cheeks

Typical session time
8 to 15 minutes
Common notes
Fine vellus hair is often left alone. Treatment targets coarse or dark growth.

Full face

Typical session time
15 to 25 minutes
Common notes
Usually combines lip, chin, cheeks, and sideburns. Cheaper per zone than booking each alone.

Neck (front)

Typical session time
5 to 12 minutes
Common notes
Sometimes grouped with jawline. Not always part of a standard full-face package.

03Why the face is different

Why the face is different

What changes on facial skin

The same device can treat face and body, but the risks and aftercare are not identical.

  • Pigment changes are more visible on the face than on legs or underarms. Conservative settings and sun avoidance reduce that risk.
  • Sessions are shorter but sensation can feel sharper on the upper lip and chin than on larger body areas.
  • Intervals are often four to six weeks, shorter than legs or back, because facial hair cycles faster.
  • Makeup, skincare acids, and recent sun exposure can affect when treatment can safely go ahead.
  • Hormonal hair on the chin or jaw may regrow even after a full course. Maintenance visits are more common on the face than on legs.
04Sun and skin tone

Sun and skin tone

Sun protection on facial laser

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, facial treatment is often limited by sun on exposed skin, not by the calendar.

Recent tan or strong daily sun on the face increases burn and pigment-change risk. Many clinics postpone facial sessions until the skin has settled. Daily SPF on treated zones is standard aftercare. For deeper South Asian skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV to V), Nd:YAG is commonly chosen for facial work because it penetrates with less surface absorption than alexandrite.

  • Avoid deliberate tanning on the face for several weeks before and after each session.
  • Tell the clinic if you use retinoids, hydroquinone, or strong exfoliants on the face.
  • A patch test on a small facial or jaw zone is especially useful when skin tone and hair contrast are borderline.

05Hormonal hair

Chin and jawline hair

Coarse hair on the chin or along the jaw is common and not always solved by a single course.

Hair driven by hormones, including patterns linked to PCOS, can regrow after laser even when settings and sessions were appropriate. Laser still reduces density and coarseness for many people, but maintenance one or two times a year on the chin or jaw is common. If hair appeared suddenly, changed quickly, or comes with other symptoms, medical review is sensible before or alongside cosmetic treatment.

  • Treat the chin as a long-term plan, not a one-time fix, if regrowth has been persistent.
  • Combine laser with medical advice when hormonal symptoms are present.
  • Do not assume failed laser means the wrong clinic. Some follicles reactivate regardless of operator skill.
06Preparation

Preparation

Before a facial laser session

Stop waxing and threading
The follicle needs to stay intact. Most clinics ask for two to four weeks without wax, thread, or pluck on the treated zone.
Shave the area
Facial zones are usually shaved one to two days before unless the clinic says otherwise. Stubble length should be short, not grown out.
Skip active skincare
Ask when to pause retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and harsh scrubs. Many clinics prefer a few days off before facial laser.
Come without makeup on the zone
Mineral sunscreen and base makeup should be removed from the treatment area. Eye makeup can stay if the upper lip alone is treated.
Disclose medications
Photosensitising drugs and some acne treatments change risk. Tell the clinic before booking facial sessions.

08FAQ

Facial laser questions

Does facial laser hurt more than body laser?

Many people find the upper lip and chin sharper than legs or arms because the zone is small and nerve-dense. Cooling gel and short passes help. Pain tolerance varies.

Can I wear makeup after facial laser?

Clinics often advise waiting twenty-four to forty-eight hours before makeup on the treated zone. Use gentle products and SPF once the skin has settled.

Will laser remove peach fuzz?

Laser targets pigment in coarse hair. Fine vellus peach fuzz is usually left untreated because it lacks enough melanin and the skin surface risk outweighs benefit.

Can men treat beard outline or neck?

Yes. Sideburns, neck, and cheek lines are common male requests. Define the exact boundary with the operator so natural beard shape is preserved.

How soon will I see results on the face?

Shedding starts one to three weeks after session one. Visible thinning often appears by sessions two to four. Chin hair driven by hormones may need more sessions or maintenance.
